Morton and Royle talked about their collaborative project, a Covid-19 diary.
Jemma Deer (author of Radical Animism: Reading for the End of the World, former Sussex PhD student now based at the Rachel Carson Center in Munich) introduced and chaired a discussion with Timothy Morton and Nicholas Royle about their collaborative work on what’s been happening in and to the world since the start of the pandemic. ‘Everything is Happening’ was a ‘minor observation’ (as distinct from mass observation) on everyday experience in a time of worldwide trauma. Morton and Royle read extracts from their diary and discussed topics ranging from ecology to chameleons, from human love to the future of the university. Timothy Morton is Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English at Rice University and author of many books, including Ecology without Nature, Hyperobjects, Dark Ecology and Spacecraft. Nicholas Royle is Professor of English at the University of Sussex and author of many books, including The Uncanny, Veering: A Theory of Literature, An English Guide to Birdwatching and Mother: A Memoir.
